"Saint Sebastian". Carved wooden sculpture. Germany. Gothic. 15th century.  As is the custom, Saint Sebastian is depicted as a young and handsome man, naked, tied to the trunk of the tree where he was shot with arrows.  In this case, he is shown before having received his torture as he is not yet wounded. His long curly hair falls to both sides, framing his face.   Of great sculptural quality. The magnificent cloth that barely covers his body is outstanding, carved to form multiple gothic folds and creating a sensation of movement. Also outstanding is the treatment of the saint’s anatomy, and his delicate facial features. 128,5 x 36 x 16 cm.
