Hogenberg, Frans Lot n° 1071

Mechelen: 2 newsprints. [Cologne G. Campen 1585-1606] Engr., 20 x 28,5 cm and 18,5 x 28 cm, exceptionally rare and nice original colour, on paginated bifolia with text on versos (central folding, ms. notes in lower margin of the 2nd). Two "Geschichtsblätter" after Frans Hogenberg from Michael Eytzinger's "De Leone Belgico", representing the Spanish Fury at Mechelen on October 2, 1572 when the city of Mechelen was conquered by the Spanish army and the English Fury on April 9, 1580 when the city was brutally sacked by Calvanist forces from Brussels.
