Arthur Eric Rowton Gill (1882-1940), English sculptor, typeface designer, and printmaker, who was associated with the Arts and Crafts movement. In the period 1930–31 Gill designed the typeface Joanna with which he hand-set his book. First edition. Printed and signed by René Hague and Eric Gill "at Piggots, near Hughenden, Buckinghamshire" in 500 copies. From the library of Emile van der Borch van Verwolde (1910-1943) and with his bookplate.
