A TIBETAN THANGKA OF SADAKSARI AVALOKITESHVARA 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY Painted with Sadaksari, the four-armed form of bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, seated in dhyanasana on a lotus throne, his two main hands held at his chest in anjali mudra whilst his two remaining hands hold a lotus flower and rosary at his shoulders, accompanied by various bodhisattvas and Buddhist monks, 53cm x 38cm. Avalokiteshvara belongs to the Padma (lotus) family of Buddhist deities and is an emanation of Dhyani Buddha Amitabha. Sadaksari is highly venerated by Tibetans since they believe that the Dalai Lamas are incarnations of this particular form of Avalokiteshvara.
