A LARGE ICON SHOWING THE ADORATION OF THE MAGI Veneto-Cretan, 16th century Tempera on wood panel. In the centre of the composition the newborn Christ, nude, his Mother holding him on her knees, Joseph behind her. Their haloes defined by golden rims. The three Magi standing and kneeling on the left, in adoration of the Child. Painted naturalistically mostly with browns, maroons, reds and yellows. Laubholz-Einzeltafel mit zwei aufgenagelten Rueckseiten-Sponki. Eitempera auf Kreidegrund. Vergoldete Randleiste ornamental punziert. 65,5 x 52,7 cm. Vor einer Landschafts- und Architekturkulisse sitzt die Gottesmutter, die den Christusknaben in ihrem Schoss haelt. Hinter ihr kniet Josef am rechten Rand. Vor dem Kind knien die drei Koenige in reicher Gewandung mit ihren Gaben. Feine Modellierung der Inkarnate in Schattierungen von Braun und Beige. Detailreiche Ausarbeitung der Landschaftskulisse im Bildhintergrund. Min. vertikale Rissbildung.
