Antoni Clavé (Barcelona, 1913 - Saint Tropez, 2005) "L’Homme au gant" (Man with glove) Carborundum and gaufrage print. 1971. Signed in pencil and numbered E/A. In 1971 there were various exhibitions to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the birth of Albrecht Dürer. As well as his paintings, his woodcut and copper prints were world-renowned, even in his lifetime, so it is no wonder that Dürer influenced a great artist such as Clavé, who was also a magnificent printer. With this and other prints, in 1971, Clavé pays homage to the great Dürer. In this case, L’Homme au gant is reminiscent of Dürer´s self-portrait, dated 1498, which is kept in the Prado, as explained in the Calvé Archives: (https://www.antoni-clave.org/focus-n-20/) "Clavé revisits the general composition, limiting it to the essential: the artist´s sharp eyes, his silhouette which stands out both in the shadow and the light, his fine leather glove which relates to his belonging to high society, and his monogram.” 76 x 56,5 cm.
