ATTIC BLACK-FIGURE OLPE ca. 525 – 500 BC; height cm 22; diam cm 9; Outstanding black-figure olpe with added colors in white and red. The accessory decoration consists of a band of checkerboard pattern on the rim, a sequence of parallel lines, dotted band, a palmette-lotus double chain a continuous menander. The main decoration is arranged on the central section of the body with a majestic Athena attacking the falling giant Enkelados. The details of the garments and helmets are rendered with elegant touches of color. On the foot, three greeks letters engraved. PROVENANCE From the Schneider collection, Vienna, early 20th century.
