‡ AN OTTOMAN SILVER-MOUNTED SWORD (SHAMSHIR), TURKEY, EARLY 19TH CENTURY with curved single-edged blade, silver hilt struck with marks including a tughra, cast and engraved with stylised foliage around the border, including a pair of quillons with moulded bud-shaped terminals, carved horn grips rising to a fluted bulbous pommel, and in original leather-covered wooden scabbard with silver locket and two suspension bands with rings all marked en suite with the hilt, and iron chape decorated with gold koftgari around the border (an early association) 76.5 cm; 30 1/8 in blade
