On 22 November 2021, by Philippe Dufour

At this Lyon sale, a signature piece by Charlotte Perriand took a very comfortable lead over a desk by Osvaldo Borsani and a painting by Robert Combas.

A Look at 20th-Century Design and Painting from Perriand to Combas

Charlotte Perriand (1903–1999), free-form "Feuille" (“Leaf”) table, c. 1960, wood (Dibétou), 72 x 234 x 105 cm/28.34 x 92.12 x 41.34 in.
Result: €150,000

For the decorative arts of the period chosen, a great designer, Charlotte Perriand, topped the excellent results, which totaled €475,452. The piece was the emblematic, free-form "Feuille" (“Leaf”) table, which fetched €150,000. Bought in Paris about 1960, this Steph Simon edition made of dibétou wood (72 x 234 x 105 cm/28.34 x 92.12 x 41.34 in) comes from a family in the Jura. It can be found in Jacques Barsac’s Perriand, l'œuvre complète (Perriand, The Complete Work), volume 3, page 84 (éd. Norma, 2017).

Osvaldo Borsani’s "T96" desk made by Tecno, also about 1960, sold for €9,750. This large, executive-style model (72 x 249 x 80 cm/28.34 x 98.03 x 31.50 in) features the signature lines of those years, two mobile wooden cases attached to black lacquered metal legs and a remarkable arched top.

The next lots brought a bit of poetry to the proceedings, starting with an untitled 1993 work by Robert Combas (38 x 27.5 x 7.5 cm/14.96 x 10.82 x 2.95 in), which found a buyer at €19,375. Consisting of acrylic, a collage of brushes and a jar lid, it features a drawing made by piercing the canvas with the brush tip.
