Design: The Elegance of Mathieu Matégot

On 16 July 2021, by Philippe Dufour

On Thursday, July 8, Laval Enchères auction house put forward this pair of 1960s black lacquered iron and brass sofa ends with glass tops in a sale specializing in 20th-century decorative art

This feather-light set (38.5 x 32.5 cm/15.2 x 12.8 in) is typical of the avant-garde designs of Mathieu Matégot (1910-2001). The Hungarian-born designer used metal structures early on, often with perforated metal tops. These small, unobtrusive and practical tables went to a buyer for €6,100.
