Photographs and Drawings from Across the Atlantic

Cindy Sherman, Salvador Dali and Thierry Cohen have one thing in common: they created on both American continents.

Cindy Sherman (b.1954), Untitled 308, 1994, Cibachrome colour print, signed, dated and numbered 4/6 on the back, 170 x 114 cm.
Result: €17,500

In 1994 Cindy Sherman made Untitled 308 by appropriating the formal vocabulary of Hans Bellmer, best known for his life-sized pubescent female dolls. Signed, dated and numbered "4/6" on the back, the Cibachrome colour print (170 x 114 cm) comes from the renowned art gallery Metro Pictures, founded in SoHo in 1980. All of those qualities pushed the bidding up to €17,500. Frenchman Thierry Cohen worked on an ambitious project called Darkened Cities, which features megalopolises as they might be seen without light pollution. Acquired from the Paris gallery Esther Woerdehoff, this 2011 pigment print, Rio de Janeiro 22°56'42''S 2011 06 04 LST 12:34 (100.5 x 151 cm), mounted on "Dibond" under plexiglass and numbered "1/3", fetched €11,250. In 1972, Salvador Dali sketched an ink drawing on a postcard of the St. Regis New York hotel (15.7 x 22.5 cm). Entitled Étoile filante (Shooting Star), this lyrical view sold for €6,375.
