Commandant de la mission Apollo 16, qui se déroule du 16 au 27 avril 1972, John W. Young effectue son quatrième vol spatial. Neuvième homme à avoir foulé le sol de la Lune, il salue d'un geste son équipier, Charles M. Duke Jr., qui le prend en photo. Près du Lem, le module lunaire dont Duke est le pilote, Young a planté un drapeau américain.

As Commander of the Apollo 16 mission that took place from April 16 to 27, 1972, John W. Young was on his fourth space flight. The ninth man to have touched the moon, he salutes his teammate, Charles M. Duke Jr., who is taking the picture. Young planted an American flag in the ground near the Lem, the lunar module flown by Duke.
