Edition of 1950 numbered copies. Copy signed with the illustrator's stamp on the printing page. Sir William Edward Parry, naval officer, Arctic explorer (born December 19, 1790, Bath, England; died 1855, Bad Ems, present-day Germany). He took part in four expeditions in search of the Northwest Passage. On the first, he was a lieutenant under Captain John Ross. The next three were under his own command. On his fifth and final expedition, he attempted to find the North Pole. Although each expedition failed, Parry made a significant contribution to our knowledge of the Arctic. Fine condition.
