Burnished and gilded bronze clock featuring the "rape of Europa," France, late 19th century 56x42x18 cm Clock with white enamel dial signed by Brulfer à Paris, supported by a burnished bull led by a maid and surmounted by the figure of Europa; a cupid completes the scene; rocaille base. Eight-day movement, half-hour strike when passing the bell, Broccot escapement and lamellar suspension. The Brulfer Paris signature on the dial evokes the Parisian watchmaking dynasty that began in the mid-18th century and whose sole member Louis Brulfer is listed in Faubourg Saint-Denis around 1800-1830
