MADSAKI ( Osaka, 1974), for Kai Kai Kiki Co. "Siwilai," 2021. Screen-printed wood. Hand-signed by the artist. In collaboration with Perrotin Gallery, New York. Skateboard. Measurements: 72 x 18 cm. This skateboard is a dark version of the canvas "The Dream" by Pablo Picasso, painted in 1932. In 2013 it was acquired by Steven Cohen after paying 155 million dollars and thus became the second most expensive painting in history, according to a note published in The New York Post, and the most quoted of his pictorial work. Madsaki was born in Osaka but moved to New Jersey at an early age. He graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York (BFA, 1996) as part of the international group of artists Barnstormers before embarking on his solo career. Satirical yet sentimental, aggressive yet vulnerable. He has used graffiti influences as a way to express the frustration and alienation of his bicultural identity while critiquing the value of art.
