John KACERE (1920-1999) ILEANA II, 1982 Oil on canvas, signed, dated 82 and titled on the back. 121 x 176.5 cm Provenance : - Galerie Jean-Pierre Lavigne, Paris Exhibitions : - John Kacere, Galerie O.K, Harris, New York, May 1 - 22, 1982 (N° OK.87) - Galerie Jean-Pierre Lavigne, Paris Our canvas was the subject of the poster for the artist's exhibition at Galerie O.K. Harris in 1982 in New York. Born in lowa in 1920, John Kacere (1920-1999) was a very precocious painter, signing his first contract at the age of twelve. He began exhibiting in the 1950s, initially focusing on abstraction. It wasn't until 1963 that he found the style that would make him famous. From then on, his work would be described as hyperrealist or photorealist. Showing only part of the female body (never the face), he strove to transcribe the grain of the skin as seen through the transparency of silks, laces and satins. He likes to contrast the lightness of a fabric with the heavy mattness created by the subtle pleating of a negligee. His canvases are imbued with great sensuality, without ever being vulgar or erotic.
