Wood stuccoed and painted in pink, white and black. Egypt, Late Period, 664-332 B.C. H. 15.5 cm During Egyptian funeral rites, the mask affixed to the mummy's face was intended to allow the soul to regain its carnal envelope. In anticipation of this resurrection, the mask also provided special protection for the head of the deceased, as the Egyptians considered it to house the individual's personality. D.P. Collection, Brussels, before 1980 - Florence Maruejol, "Les rites funéraires de l'Égypte ancienne" in Dieux, cultes, et rituels dans les collections du Louvre, Musée du Louvre,
