Section d'un Coran (Juz' 14) Lot n° 16

Iran, Timurid art, 15th century Sura al-Abraham (14), Sura al-Hijr (15) and Sura al-Nahl (16). Arabic manuscript on paper. 18 ff. 11 ll. per page, written in naskh, in black, gold and polychrome ink, in a blue and gold frame. The text is completely provided with diacritical points and vowels. Verses separated by golden rosettes. The five verses indicated in margin by a small gilded medallion, inscribed in a lapis blue circle, bordered by a lanceolate pattern of polychrome petals. The ten verses represented by large circular medallions, inscribed with the term 'ashr in gold kufic. Bands delimited by a thin gold border separate the suras. The titles, in gilt thuluth, are inscribed in clouds and stand out against a finely squared background in ink. Later European binding. Text : 22 x 15 cm ; Page : 30 x 22.5 cm A similar decoration is found on a Qur'an executed in Shiraz between 1336 and 1357 for the daughter of Sharaf al-Din Mahmudshah, founder of the Inju dynasty (ca. 1325-1353).
