BION (Nicolas). A treatise on the construction and principal uses of mathematical instruments. With the necessary figures for the intelligence of this treaty. Chez P. Husson, La Haye, Husson, 1723, in-4°, front, (8)-389-(3) p. New edition, after the original published in 1709, illustrated with a beautiful allegorical frontispiece by Coster, a title vignette by Picart, and 30 plates, most of them folding (often with multiple figures), numbered from 1 to 28, and two others noted A and B. Title page in red and black. Worn binding in full brown basane (spine rubbed and missing). Nicolas Bion was the king's engineer for mathematical instruments, he offered in his store, Quay de l'Horloge du Palais, all the instruments of which he proposes in this work the principles of construction and use, from simple measuring instruments, compasses, rulers, squares, to instruments allowing the raising of maps, fortifications... Navigation and astronomical instruments (compasses, clocks...). The author suggests how to build these instruments and with which tools, and how to use them and for what purpose.
