Beautiful and rare 16th century Venetian edition in italics. "Gli Asolani" is an Italian literary work of the Renaissance, written between 1497 and 1502 by the future cardinal Pietro Bembo, of which it is the first important work. It is dedicated to Lucretia Borgia. It is about dialogues on love, grouped in three books. The title is an allusion to Cicero: it refers to talks that are supposed to have taken place in Asolo, at the court of Catherine Cornaro. The first edition was published in 1505 by Aldus Manutius, the second, completely revised in 1530. In the course of the 16th century, there were no less than 32 Italian, one Spanish and seven French editions of the "Gli Asolani", and this shows the influence that Bembo had on authors such as Ludovico Ariosto, Baldassare Castiglione, and Torquato Tasso.
