Count Charles-Albert was ex-officer of the Sardinian army, was ex-military attaché in Persia, familiar with the entourage of Napoleon III, social columnist who published under the pseudonym of "ZED", he was a member of the Jockey Club . And indeed, Countess Marguerite-Hortense Starzynska was the second wife of her uncle, Count Boleslaw Starzynski, a Polish painter and sculptor living in Paris at that time.
