Silk GHOUM carpet (Iran), shah period, mid 20th century

Technical characteristics : Silk velvet on silk foundation.
Density of 810 000 knots in a square meter.
A cream field with chevrons in braces, supports a hexagonal brick counter field, which itself hosts an oblong medallion, poly-lobed, cruciform navy with ivory vegetal heart and its pendants arrows. The whole, including also, spandrels brick and navy, with arabesques, is covered with a floral scroll with exuberant multicolored flowers. Two ivory borders with garlands of flowers frame the main navy with a succession of corollas blooming in polychrome.
