Oval snuff box in lapis lazuli, veined with pyrite, with moulded yellow gold (750) lid and bottom rings, underlined by fine friezes of stylized leaves and adorned with two ribbons in opaque white enamel. France, last quarter of the 18th century. No apparent hallmark. Traces of three punches inside the rebate: Of which probably that of Charge des petits ouvrages de PARIS for 1782-1789 [L.L.]. Punches on the outside of the rabbet: One of Discharge of the small works of PARIS for 1782-1789 [bird's head]. One of Countermark of PARIS for 1789-1792 [bee]. One of medium Recense of gold and silver of PARIS for 1798-1809 [left profile of the Republic] One of small Guarantee of gold of PARIS for 1819-1838 [head of ram]. One of the French Title of gold to 750/1000 from 1838 [head of eagle]. Gross weight: 159.3 g. - 28 x 77 x 61.5 mm. Flush cracks in the lapis. The lid and interior of the box lined with a silver (min. 800) shaped plate and bowl serving as reinforcing structures to the lapis lazuli plate and bowl, damaged and restored. White enamel damaged, with chips and attempted restoration. Scratches.
