Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de La FAYETTE (château de Chavaniac, in Saint-Georges-d'Aurac 1757-1834), French officer and politician.
Autograph letter signed, addressed from the castle of La Grange, on the 8th of frimaire. He lived in the castle of La Grange-Bléneau, an old fortified house, located in the commune of Courpalay, in the department of Seine-et-Marne, from 1802 until his death in 1834.
He addresses his letter to his "dear former colleague" who was "appointed to the presidency of the court". He asks him to come and see him at La Grange to rest and informs him of the deal that M. Villars proposes by selling him the bare property of his house.
He says, "and if I had money, I would rather put it into agriculture than into houses in Paris". But his children could be interested and he asks him to negotiate the price of the house. He ends his letter with the words "my recovery is progressing gradually and will be complete".
