Numa BOUCOIRAN (Nîmes 1805 - 1869) Important set of about 272 drawings (210 on tracing paper and 62 more completed on brown or blue paper) collected in a folio album. Most of the drawings in the first part of the album are based on Michelangelo's Last Judgment. They may have been executed as part of Boucoiran's collaboration with Xavier Sigalon for the painted copy of the same Last Judgment adorning the chapel of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, or for the one he did alone, in watercolor, for the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Tourcoing. Another part of the album collects drawings executed after the paintings of old masters: Sebastiano del Piombo (Flagellation of Christ), sometimes more modern, and, above all, various studies with religious or historical motifs.
