Flemish school of the 18th century, after Pierre Paul RUBENS
The miracle of Saint Ignatius of Loyola
Oak panel, parqueted
76 x 52 cm
Accidents and missing parts
Without frame
This painting is based on the painting by Rubens, The Miracle of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, kept in Vienna at the Kunsthistorisches Museum (see M.Jaffé, Rubens, Milan, 1989, n°480, reproduced). Variations in the composition and the point of view adopted are to be noted. If the setting is the same, the scene takes place on the right side of Saint Ignatius, whereas Rubens' painting develops the left side. The framing is tighter, the scene more dense. Some change in the colors of the clothes, in the postures. Indeed, the sick woman is seen from the back, unlike the original in which she is represented from the front.
