Two carved statuettes in half round, in painted and gilded wood Spain, early 18th century - Saint Matthew: an angel in the form of a child carries on his head the open Bible, which allows the evangelist to write. He holds an inkwell in his left hand - Saint Mark: he rests his right foot on the lion's head. He holds the open Gospel on his right knee and with his right hand writes The two evangelists standing are dressed in liturgical vestments made of precious painted fabrics with gold threads H. 42,5 cm each The gilding and painting are repeated in places. For Saint Matthew: the left foot of the cherub is damaged and a fracture is visible at the back of the sculpture. For Saint Mark : a small lack on the top of the left foot. These two statues originally formed a set with those of the two missing evangelists. They were intended to be against a support because the back is poorly worked and without gilding.
