Deux enfants, 1953

In this work, filled with a great sweetness, Mai Trung Thứ introduces us to the conversation of two young children. Their candid and colorful silhouettes contrast with the plain yellow background of the composition. The little boy, in traditional dress, seems attentive to the words of the little girl, who speaks wisely, finger raised, a book in the other hand. Here, the childish innocence takes possession of the composition. With a refined and precise technique made possible by the black outline, the artist succeeds in underlining the candor of these young children, absorbed in the seriousness of their exchange. The colorful and vivid palette contributes to the feeling of joyfulness emanating from this work.
