Traditionally, this piece is attributed to Arnold, a sculptor from Frankenthal, who worked in Niderviller from 1759 to 1780. The technique of pipe clay differs from that of earthenware by a whiter and finer clay which allows a finer rendering of the details and modeling of the pieces.
