This tapestry is part of the "Ports de mer" hanging, whose animal theme draws its inspiration from the Menagerie of Versailles. It was one of the few to have been acquired by the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne from the Manufacture de Beauvais, for Louis XIV at Marly. A hanging was supplied to the Royal Court of Sweden in 1695.
