A draughtsman from a very young age, Bernard Buffet expressed his artistic ambitions very early on. A great admirer of Rembrandt, with whom he shares the taste for passionate and relentless work, or Cézanne and Courbet, he can isolate himself in his studio for hours, far from the violence of the world. He quickly detached himself from these early influences to adopt his inherent style: sharp, cutting lines. With a dry and incisive style, Bernard Buffet uses his vivid palette in this scene of trees by the pond, which is in keeping with his artistic line. If the artist regularly paints scenes drawn from his imagination, he sometimes lets himself be lulled by the landscapes that are dear to him. Here the yellows and greens dance with the movement of the trees. The scene is carried by the wind, which Bernard Buffet masters with talent.
