The nuances of Mai Trung Thứ’s colors contribute to the virtuosity of his work. His artistic sensitivity is expressed through the subtlety of his palette, which he handles with delicacy. A lover of music, a recurring theme in his work, Mai Trung Thứ uses his painter’s palette as a score cradled by the hues of his melodies. The palette holds the intriguing secrets of the artist’s soul, gradually becoming an attribute of the painter, like an extension of his hand and mind. Here, it is an intimate moment that Mai Trung Thứ shares through this palette that was gifted to his framer in 1941, and which has been kept by the family ever since. It was recently exhibited at the Macon Museum as part of the exhibition «Mai Thu, echo of a dreamed Vietnam». By passing on this very personal object, he allows its owner to discover the essence of the artist’s relationship with his material. All the painter’s subtlety is revealed by the outpouring of soft and shimmering colors, characteristic of his paintings. Shaded with yellow, ochre, then green and blue, the pigments blossom in accordance with his inspirations.
