Nasa. Historic recovery in the Pacific Ocean of the crew of the Apollo 8 mission on December 27, 1968. Apollo 8 was the first crewed spacecraft to leave low Earth orbit and the first to reach the Moon, put itself in orbit and return. The three astronauts making up the crew - Frank Borman, James Lovell and William Anders - were the first to get close to the Moon, witness an Earthrise, photograph it and escape the gravity of a celestial body.Vintage silver print.
