Height : 53,3 53,3 - Width : 43 cm (for the motif 51,7 x 41,5) (small tears) Palmette frame with oval view in gilded wood from the Empire or Restoration period (small accidents) Painter, engraver, as well as physicist and chemist, Bourgeois is credited with first-rate optical works and studies on color. A student of the engraver Wille, he was especially noted for his talent as a miniaturist, which led him to paint portraits of Bonaparte and the Empire aristocracy. The technique used in our drawing is typical of the work of miniaturists who tried their hand at large formats. The Louvre Museum holds about ten of his works.
