This is a reduction of the marble sculpture adorning the peristyle of the Madeleine church in Paris. A student of Bosio and winner of the Grand Prix de Rome in 1828, Dantan produced sculptures in the academic style for important Parisian projects such as the Palais du Louvre and several churches.
