NASA. Perfect liftoff for the "Jupiter C Explorer" rocket on July 26, 1958 from the Cape Canaveral military missile launch pad. Jupiter-C, of its complete name Jupiter Composite Reentry Test Vehicle, is an American research and development rocket of the Redstone family, derived from Jupiter-A with the addition of solid propellant stage coming from the MGM-29 Sergeant missile, for the test of the nuclear warheads during the atmospheric reentry, of the PGM-19 Jupiter intermediate range ballistic missile. Jupiter-C will be reconverted as a space launcher and renamed Juno I, for the sending of the first American satellites Explorer. Those are the teams of the German engineer Wernher von Braun who developed this missile which was forsaken by the Americans in the race to Space for the benefit of the Vanguard missile by President Eisenhower because of the Nazi past of the designers of the Jupier C Explorer which prepared the "Redstone" project. After the failure of the Vanguard program, it is finally the German engineers who took in hand the destiny of the American space program which triumphed only ten years later with the Apollo 11 mission and its Saturn V rocket conceived under the direction of Wernher Von Braun.
