"DEVRIÈS (Maurice). A century of French glory. In L'intimité des personnages illustres.Édition M. D(Devriès). 1950 ca, Paris, 1950. 12 albums in-4 in the Italian of 12 unnumbered sheets, held by a burgundy cotton tie, title in an arabesque decoration, in red and black, hardback and embossed cover, illustrated with a photo pasted on the first plate, the whole in a slipcase of the publisher covered with a beige percaline. Important collection of photographic pictures presented as being the faithful reproduction of a collection started in 1845 by Pierre-Marie Lizerolles, collector, bibliophile, writer, modest controller of finances, in the service of the king, who compiled the first album wanting to regroup "a panorama of portraits of the highest personalities of the State, Sciences, Arts, Letters, Theater and other fields". He entrusted the task of continuing this collection to his grandson J. M. Dufrénoy in 1867 who signed the next four albums. His strength betraying him in 1917, Dufrénoy will pass in turn the torch to his nephew Maurice Seirved; the collection ends in 1950 with the photo of Vincent Auriol (1947) fishing. Maurice Devriès, edition M. D., was a master in the art of facsimile, his publishing house was partly specialized in the reproduction of documents of the BNF. Each album is composed of 12 sheets on strong paper, each bearing one to four laminated plates, with a brief biographical note underneath, sometimes amusing in facsimile handwriting.
