Plate of the private service of the Emperor, also known as the Quartiers Généraux, with polychrome and gold decoration in the center of a scene representing the abduction of the horses from the Basilica of Saint Mark in Venice, which took place in December 1797. The marli is decorated with a green chrome background with radiant decoration of antique swords, laurel frieze and stars in burnished gold.
The scene is signed "Robert" in the decoration. Jean-François Robert was a painter of landscapes and hunting scenes at the factory between 1806 and 1843. He worked on the decoration of several pieces of the Emperor's private service.

In 1807, Napoleon ordered from the Imperial Manufacture of Sevres the famous service of the Emperor for his personal use. Delivered to the Tuileries on March 27, 1810, on the occasion of the marriage of Napoleon and Marie-
Louise, this service, of exceptional quality and beauty, included seventy-two dinner plates representing various subjects, twenty-eight of which were supplied by Napoleon himself.
