DAVOUT (Louis-Nicolas). Autograph letter signed to his wife Aimée Leclerc. Domnau [near Königsberg in East Prussia, now Domnovo near Kaliningrad in Russia], February 11 [1807]. 1 p. in-4: "My very good little Aimée, I take advantage of every opportunity to give you some news. I feel that after all the news we had to give you, you must have needed it more than ever. Now you must be at ease and have had a new proof that YOU SHOULD NOT DOUBT MY FORTUNE by the details I have given you. YOU WILL HAVE SEEN THAT IT HAS BEEN AS FAVORABLE TO ME AS EVER. I WILL NOT TELL YOU ANY MORE ABOUT MY WOUND SINCE THERE IS HARDLY A VESTIGE OR SCAR LEFT OF IT. Soon we will take our winter quarters, which this time the Russians will not want to disturb. A thousand caresses to my Joséphine [their eldest daughter, born in 1804], a thousand kisses to her beautiful and excellent mother. Your good and faithful sposo [faithful husband, in Italian] L. Davout ".
