"PLACET" STOOL
LARGE SQUARE SHAPED STOOL
Louis XIV period, around 1700-1710.
Richly carved and gilded wood.
Cushion : L. 67 x 67 cm
Stool : 60 x 63 cm
Many chips in the gilding. Upholstery matching the armchair
the queen (Lot n° 51) and the sofa (Lot n° 38).
Modifications in the dimensions of the spacer on the four branches.
This model with belt hidden by the cover in studded fabric
with bangs is rare because the base is very low.
It rests on four baluster feet with small capitals joined by
an important "x" shaped strut of four flat balusters.
The sculpture, of foliage motifs, foliage border and rosette,
is of good quality.
The placet at the court of Versailles was essential to "etiquette".
This seat, of a lower rank than the chair or the armchair, was the object
of many covetousness.
Superbly covered with a brocade "à la dentelle", in the Regency style
Regency style, copper satin background, gold decoration of a flower blooming in
lace ribbons (wear to the cushion).
