PAIR OF CHENETS
FLANDERS OF THE SPANISH NETHERLANDS,
CIRCA 1620
Cast bronze, chased and gilded.
H. 66 cm W. 28 cm D. 76 cm
Good condition.
They rest on a base with two crosses with acanthus and centered
with a rose window. Above a square entablature, on the same stem, a fluted
a fluted ring and a sphere finely decorated with foliage
foliage, then a half-sphere with the same decoration to end
ending with a flame.

See the painting representing the salon of Pieter Paul Rubens (1577- 1640)
by Frans Francken II (1581-1642) kept in the National Museum of
Stockholm (Sweden). Similar chenets can be found in the fireplace.
