16. BILLARD DE VEAUX (Robert Julien, known as Alexandre). Le Bréviaire vendéen ou biographie des hommes marquants de la Chouannerie et de la Vendée, pour servir à l'histoire de France et détourner les habitans de l'ouest de toute tentative d'insurrection. Paris, Lecointe et Pougin, Versailles, Barreswil, 1832. 3 volumes in-8, bound in contemporary green half-calf, smooth spine decorated and titled in gold. Rare first edition. Ex Libris "Sunt Res Lacrymarum" on the reverse of the front cover. "All the works of Billard de Veaux have become very rare", says Lemière; all the more so, reports Lucien Dorbon, that "the author gives such precise details on the Vendéens and the Chouans, that the families whose relatives are named in it chase and destroy this work, hence its rarity". Bindings rubbed, spines slightly sunned, upper covers damaged. Freckles. Attached : CRETINEAU-JOLY (Jacques). History of the Military Vendée. Paris, C. Gosselin, 1843. 4 vol. in-12, contemporary binding, half tan, spine ribbed and decorated. Maroon title and giblets. Second edition. Ex Libris "Sunt Res Lacrymarum" on the back cover. Some foxing.
