PIERRE ÉTIENNE MONNOT (1657-1733) AFTER SAINT PETER AND SAINT PAUL Important pair of sculptures in gilt bronze, mark of the founder CHIURAZZI NAPOLI. Marble base. The Chiurazzi workshops were active in Naples between 1860 and 1920. Height : 73 cm 73 cm and Height : 70 cm The important sculptural undertaking that inaugurated the eighteenth century in Rome was the realization of the colossal statues of the apostles for the twelve monumental niches of the Basilica of Saint John Lateran. The statues were executed before 1718 by the most important sculptors of the time in Rome. Among these sculptors, Peter-Etienne Monnot was responsible for the models of St. Peter and St. Paul that we present here.
