Pair of silver torches standing on a round base with contours underlined by a cartouche and shell clasps, foliated.
The shaft with sides decorated with falls of piastres surmounted by a knot decorated with four shells.
The tap, round, decorated with leaves in clasps and a molding of oves.

(Slight shocks on the bobèches, dent on the base of one of the torches and restorations, slightly distorted shafts, traces of coats of arms formerly engraved in the cartouches).

Jean François Balzac, born around 1711, succeeded in 1749 to his brother Edme -Pierre in the quality of privileged goldsmith according to the court. In March 1755, he is received as a master and chooses a shell as a different one. He resides in Pont-au-Change and dies in 1766.
Our torches are to be compared with those kept in the Louvre Museum, Jean François Balzac, 1764-1765 (OA10368 2).
