RARE AND BEAUTIFUL COVERED ECUELLE in silver, MACON 1731-1733 by Joachim-Alexis LAMBILLON born in NAMUR in 1699 and received in 1726 in MACON, the body plain, the handles finely chased of a couple of dolphins resting on a terrace molded with oves and decorated in its center with a double shell surmounted by a cartouche decorated with scales of fish and a shell, the cover with doucine chiselled and moulded with flutes and underlined by a frieze of flowers and foliage on a bitter bottom, the catch in godronné button resting on a terrace chiselled of rosettes, foliage, shells and foliage with decoration alternated of a fire pot, an eagle enclosing lightnings, a fountain and a flowery bouquet. Pds. 805 g. Height. 12,5 cm. Length. 30,7 cm. Diam. 17,4 cm. (very well stamped, on the handles, on the body and on the lid)
There is no bowl of this quality in the reference works on Burgundian silverware. It can be noticed that the motif of the handles refers to the bowl of the Grand Dauphin by Sebastien LEBLOND preserved in the Musée du LOUVRE. At the beginning of the XVIIIth century, MACON, a city of commerce, was in full expansion and master silversmiths of foreign origin, notably from the Spanish Netherlands and the Northern Provinces, were established.
