"Anti-clerical statue". Wooden sculpture. Size : 44,5 x 7 x 9,5 cm. Rare and unusual object. The evocation of this man of the Church with a pig's head aims to present the Catholic Church as obsessed with sex and lust, despite its rigorous morality and its displayed modesty. This object comes from the North of France where the anti-clerical sentiment following numerous scandals and the establishment of a left-wing press has often caricatured the man of the Church as a pig called "cléri-cochon".
