Published in 1984 with the subtitle A Woman Under the Influence, The Trigger is undoubtedly Manara's most notorious work. It is based on the simple idea that, with the help of a chip transplanted into the brain, a machine is able to trigger female desire on command. The story is so successful that it becomes a comic book series in four volumes, then a feature film in 1985, and finally a TV series in seven episodes in 2001. This cover made for the Italian edition of the comic book is of a very simple composition: on a background of hot colors, not to say torrid, our beautiful heroine knows the ecstasy. In the foreground, in a cold color, the machine that triggers this overflow of desire. An iconic cover for a work that is no less iconic.
