Autograph letter signed "Victor Hugo" to Arthur de La Guéronnière (1816- 1875), editor of Le Pays, and politician. 1 p. in-8. Dated "August 3". Address on the back. He recommends a "brave and worthy young man" that he could not get into the newspaper l'Événement. "What l'Événement could not do, could Le Pays? If you can employ Mr. Philly in the most humble job, I repeat (porter for example), you will do a good work, and I will be happy to add this gratitude to all those I owe you [...]".
