The name "ladjvardina" comes from the Persian "lajvard" meaning "lapiz lazuli". The blue color that characterizes it comes from a cobalt glaze on which is painted after firing a decoration called "small fire" most often in red, white, gold and black. The technique of "small fire" known as "ladjvardina" is characteristic of the Il-Khanid period following the Mongol invasion. Shaped pieces with this type of decoration are rare. Expert L.S.
