CHILD'S HEAD in limestone carved in the round, polychromed and gilded. Face with full cheeks and kind expression; short hair with curls surrounding oversized ears with marked contours. Northern half of France, 13th century
Height : 10,5 cm Walnut base (slight accidents, spalled nose)
This charming head is probably a fragment of a large seated Virgin from the early Gothic period. The delicacy of its expression and the refinement of its execution, with the presence of the original gilding of the hair under a more recent polychromy, indicate the origin of a workshop in a large city close to the Parisian influence.
